By Jane Slover Scouts BSA Troop 48 held a Mini-Klondike Derby at Northcroft Park recently for a number of participants. The event was modeled off the Klondike Derby, where participants rotate from area to area within a scout camp, competing in different skill tasks while using a homemade Klondike sled to move gear from place to place. The Mini-Klondike Derby featured several activity stations, such as fat-tire bikes, snow shoes, fire building and more.
The primary purpose of the event is community outreach and spreading the word about scouting programs, with secondary purposes including giving scouts the opportunity for service, communication and leadership.
